DRAG (DRAGHUNT)

Construct: Noun
Definition: A corss-country dog race of about ten miles distance. The dogs are harriers, akin to foxhounds. Before the race, men lay a scent using meat or aniseed along the trail from the finishing point to the start, the hounds following the trail. The first dog to reach the finish is the winner.
Use:
Derivation: 'Drag' - a trail or scent, possibly a corruption of draw. (Concise Oxford Dictionary)
and usual meaning 'to drag the meat across the countryside'.
