Definition: A taunt.
Use: I see you had an old dig at him.
I see you were taunting him.
Derivation: Unknown, but note 'Díg altas' and 'Díg laid' - vengeance, avenge. (Meyer)
Possibly figurative use of 'to dig' as 'to poke' (a person in the ribs).
