FAST ONE, TO PULL A

Construct: Noun
Definition: To cheat.
Use: He pulled a fast one on me.
He tricked me.
Derivation: Possibly from the game 'Fast and Loose' - a cheating game practised at fairs, the dupe being invited to put the stick in the loop of a coiled belt so that it cannot be pulled away, hence 'to play fast and loose' - to be shifty. (Chambers)
