Definition: Dirty, filthy.
Use: His hair was manky (with the dirt).
His hair was very dirty.
Derivation: Possibly Irish 'Mongach' - maned, long-haired. (Dinneen)
'Mongach' - long-haired, hairy. (Joynt)
See 'Mankie' - rotten, very inferior. Possibly from French 'Manqué'. (Partridge)
