Construct: Noun
Definition: A 'steering' car, a boy's home-made toy cart. There were two versions, the most usual being constructed from a timber plank about 18" wide and 24" to 36" long. The wheels were attached to the ends of two battens which were fitted to the underside of the plank at front and rear. The front batten was loosely fitted so that it swivelled and the cart was steered by pulling on strings attached to the ends of the batten projecting beyond the sides of the plank.
