VAMPS, STOCKIN'

Construct:
Definition: The soles of the feet (in stockings).
Use: He was six feet two (inches) in his stockin' vamps.
He stood six feet two inches standing in his stockings i.e. without shoes.
Derivation: Vamp (corruption of meaning). And note 'Saucepan came into the kitchen in his stockin' vamps and disgraced us overright the strange woman'. (Murphy).
